Dr. Emma Lynn is a scholar and instructor who specializes in the relationship between feminist activism and media industries. She is currently an Assistant Professor at Oglethorpe University in the Department of Film and Media Studies and the Department of Communication Studies.
Her research on representations of sexual violence in film and television has been published in peer-reviewed journals, such as The Journal of Popular Culture and The Velvet Light Trap. She has also presented her research at at a number of national and international conferences, including SCMS, NCA, and ICA.
She earned her Ph.D. in Communication Studies at Colorado State University where her dissertation was titled, “#MeToo Media and Hollywood: Challenging Sexual Violence in Film and Television and the Limits of Media Industries.”
She has an M.A. from Bowling Green State University in Popular Culture Studies where she studied fan communities and amateur filmmaking. Dr. Lynn also has a B.A. in Media Arts Studies from Brigham Young University where she worked as an editor, production designer, and producer on several short films.
Beyond research, Dr. Lynn has experience in media production, accumulating hundreds of thousands of followers and millions of views across various platforms. She is also passionate about media distribution, having participated in screening committees, including the Peabody Awards and the ACT Film Festival.
Additionally, Dr. Lynn has a lifelong love for teaching, having experience in courses about film analysis, film history, genre studies, public speaking, popular culture, and media theory.
